Enabling BlackBerry Enterprise Mail Using Wireless Enterprise Activation
Requirements
To use the BlackBerry wireless activation with BlackBerry® Enterprise server, you must have:
- BlackBerry handheld software version 4.0 or later. To check the version of the client software installed on your handheld, open Options > About. Note: If you need to upgrade your handheld software to version 4.0, please contact your wireless carrier and request the latest client software for your handheld. Please note that the 900 series handhelds (such as R957) have a different versioning system for the software. On 900 series models, version 2.7 is equivalent to version 4.0 on newer devices.
- BlackBerry Internet Service or BlackBerry Enterprise Service with your wireless service provider. If you are using BlackBerry Internet Service, then there is one additional step during the setup process – downloading the free Enterprise Activation application from BlackBerry App World.
- Good wireless signal strength. You must ensure that there is sufficient wireless coverage present when Enterprise Activation is attempted. To check signal strength, go to the Options > Status page on your BlackBerry – it should be between -10db and -90db (the smaller the number the better) for the Enterprise Activation process to go smoothly.
Important notice prior to performing enterprise activation
Prior to performing enterprise activation, please check if you have ANY data on the device (for example, some calendar items or contacts that had been added to the device before you decided to use BlackBerry Enterprise Service). If this is the case, we strongly recommend backing up existing data to prevent possible DATA LOSS during enterprise activation. For instructions on backing up your data, refer to the following BlackBerry Knowledge Base article or contact your Wireless Provider for more information:

Enabling wireless enterprise activation
- You must have enabled the BlackBerry 5 service on the mailbox using the eCloudServ.net control panel, or have requested this to be done by your Service Provider.
- When enabling the BlackBerry 5 service through the eCloudServ.net control panel, you will have been required to set an Activation Password, or your Service Provider will have provided you with one.
- On the handheld, open the Enterprise Activation program (depending on the model, navigate to either Options > Enterprise Activation, Options > Advanced Options > Enterprise Activation, Settings > Options > Advanced Options > Enterprise Activation, or for Blackberry OS6: Home Screen > Setup > Email accounts > choose Enterprise or if it doesn't allow to choose Enterprise: Home Screen > press BlackBerry button > Open Tray > Options > Device > Advanced System Settings > Enterprise Activation).
If you do not have these options available, you are most likely subscribed to BlackBerry Internet Service rather than BlackBerry Enterprise Service, so you will need to download the free Enterprise Activation application from BlackBerry App World:

From the home screen, press the BlackBerry button to bring up the main menu screen, and select BlackBerry App World:

Once BlackBerry App World has loaded, select the Search function by clicking on the magnifying glass, and perform a search for ‘enterprise activation’:

Download and install the Enterprise Activation application, and then select Run once it has finished automatically installing:

- Once the BlackBerry Enterprise Activation software has opened, type in your full primary email address and activation password – if you are prompted for the Activation Server Address, leave it blank – and press Activate.

About the password: This activation password is used only to activate your mailbox. The password is invalid after five unsuccessful activation attempts, and if you do not activate your handheld within 48 hours after the password is created, the password expires and cannot be used. When the handheld is successfully activated, the password is removed from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. You can always generate a new activation password using the eCloudServ.net control panel.
- After you choose Activate on your handheld, your device sends an activation request to the eCloudServ.net BlackBerry Enterprise Server and the device and server establish and verify keys and exchange details, and your service setup is complete.

Note: On initial sync, only messages less than 7-14 days old are forwarded to the device, and no more than 350 messages total are synced to the device.
